AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a structured, college preparatory system dedicated to helping prepare students for success in the areas of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR). The system helps students develop the skills and mindset necessary for success in college, professional training, and the workplace. Here in FSD, over 800 students in grades K-6 and over 200 students in grades 7-12 are part of AVID. In grades K-5, AVID strategies are embedded in the core curriculum and taught throughout the day. In grades 6-12, AVID is offered as an elective class and AVID strategies are taught schoolwide.
