Jones-Farrar

Jones-Farrar, An International Baccalaureate (IB) World School was authorized as an IB World School in June 2013 and offers the IB Primary Years Programme. The school is open to students in Grades K-6 through an application process that is conducted each January.

IB World Schools share a common philosophy and a commitment to high quality and challenging international education that Jones-Farrar believes is important for our students. Retaining authorization status requires extensive ongoing preparation, reflection, and staff professional development. An IB authorization team revisits the school every five years to ensure that curriculum continues to be rigorous & global.

At the heart of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curriculum are four essential elements: concepts, skills, attitudes, and action. These essential elements are incorporated in the following six subject areas: language arts, social studies, fine arts, mathematics, science & technology, and personal, social, and physical education. 

The IB PYP encourages international-mindedness while at the same time helping children develop an understanding of their own cultural and national identities. Most importantly, the IB PYP encourages a positive attitude toward learning by encouraging students to ask challenging questions, to critically reflect, to develop research skills, to “learn how to learn” and to participate in community service. In the spirit of internationalism, students are also introduced to a second language. Students at Jones-Farrar IB World School learn Spanish.

There are approximately 50 teachers and staff at Jones-Farrar in 17 classrooms.  The school houses a gym, an inquiry Center.  Jones-Farrar has an active and dedicated Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), which supports our students and teachers throughout the year.
